The Fauquier County Committee for Excellence in Education, a 501(C)3 organization is dedicated to supporting and promoting excellence in our public schools by providing enrichment opportunities for outstanding teachers.
The Committee evolved from the Long Range Finance and Salary Study Committee, a task force appointed by the Fauquier County School Board and the Board of Supervisors in January, 1984. The Long Range Study Committee, in addition to addressing compensation issues, recommended that the County develop programs to improve the community's understanding of and appreciation for public education and to recognize and reward outstanding teachers. The School Board appointed Messrs. William Armstrong, Thomas diZerega and C. Hunton Tiffany to pursue these goals. They were assisted in their efforts by then-Assistant Superintendent of Public Schools, Mr. James Brumfield.
Named the Committee for Excellence in Education, the membership has grown to include business and community leaders from throughout the county.
